Don Schiller''s Vintage Drums

Comments from Don Schiller:

Sizes are 14" x 26" bass drum, 9" x 13" mounted tom, 2 16" x 16" floor toms, and a 51/2" x 14" snare. The snare is from I believe,1955 ("Soundking" lugs) Based on the bass drum badge I'd say its late 40's early fifties. Beavertail lugs.Continental wrap. Ive used the leedy tom mount(like what Buddy used on his last set), a Ludwig hoop mount and now Im using the Slingerland type like what Gene Krupa used.

Im using the Ludwig Hercules cymbal stands. Cymbals are 14" Paiste 2002 Heavy Hi-Hat,20" and18" Paiste Rude Crashes, a 8" Zildjian splash, 22" Zildjian Ping Ride and a 22" Zildjian Swish Knocker w/rivets. My pedal is a Rogers, and the bass drum spurs are from Danmar. I try to use Aquarian "American Vintage" heads because I love that warm brown sound they make. The front logo on my bass drum (which uses a Remo "Fiberskyn" head) is from Vintage Logos.

Don plays these drums regularly, playing a variety of musical styles and says they always sound great in any of those situations. Cool! Radio Kings and other vintage drums aren't "just for jazz"! Check out Don's band at http://www.liveloosechangemusic.com
