2007 was a great, busy year:
Most people that know me think of me as a "jazz drummer". In fact though, (although I have a great love for jazz) I've spent most of my life playing everything else. And, I'd rather play as much music as I can, than sit at home, wishing there were more jazz jobs. So, beginning in May of 2006, I played 5 nights per week with the Brook Faulk band at Eddie's, and had a great time doing it. I've enjoyed the band, which never was boring, because of all the guest artists (movie at right) we've played with.
Jazz, rock, funk, blues, whatever... Fun!
There was some jazz...
For six months, (October thru March) the Mike James Trio was also at Eddie's, (on Sundays) performing and hosting a jam session. Once a month, during that time, we played with a different guest artist, and I got some good live recordings out of it. (See the Latest Recordings page)

What's next?
Like everyone in this business, I do certain work to survive, Personally though, I'm changing directions entirely, meaning that I'm going to change my drum setup, stylize my work more, and create a new recording/performance project. It will be completely different from everything else I've done, and more oriented toward modern funk rhythms, thick harmony, and elaborate arrangements. It's time for a change, and something more serious.
